A Message from Your Sheriff

Welcome to one of the most beautiful Counties in Wyoming. Which famously housed Steamboat for some time. Platte County is a great place to live and work. On behalf of myself and my department, I thank you for living, working, and visiting here.

The Office of Sheriff is constitutionally elected in the State of Wyoming and is the only elected Law Enforcement position in the state.  As the elected Sheriff in Platte County, it is important to note that I answer to you the people of Platte County, and am not directed or governed by any other person.  The Sheriff is the highest-ranking law enforcement officer in the county. This makes me answerable only to the voters of Platte County.

The key to an effective law enforcement agency is to earn, have, and keep the trust of the people and that is the goal of the Platte County Sheriff’s Office. I know it takes more than just responding to calls to create a safer Platte County, it includes developing and maintaining relationships with the residents, businesses, non-profit agencies, and public safety partners.  It is incumbent on all of us to work together to create a safer Platte County. I personally enjoy trying to work with children who have found themselves in not the greatest situations and helping them try and work through it. And that is what I expect of my staff as well.

I have an open-door policy that extends to my staff as well as the public.  I will always try to make time for drop-in visitors but am often in and out of the office patrolling or taking calls.  If you would like to make an appointment to speak with me, call 307-322-2331 or email me at drussell@plattecountywyoming.com

It is truly an honor to serve as your Platte County Sheriff.

Thank You,

David L. Russell
