K9 Unit
The Platte County Sheriff's Office has Dual Purpose K9’s. These dogs are tenacious about locating illegal drugs and apprehending fleeing suspects. They also love to get pets and hugs from local schoolchildren.
Our K9s are specialized in tracking, apprehension, building searches, and deputy protection. These K9s can be used to track fleeing fugitives.
Ways they Help the Community
Assisting School Administrators and Teachers
The K9 team gives demonstrations at local schools. The K9s can be used to "sniff" for drugs and paraphernalia in the common areas, locker rooms and vehicles on the school grounds. This is done at the request of either School District 1 or 2.
Partnering with Business Owners
The Sheriff's K9 Unit assists business owners with narcotics detection in the common areas of their businesses and supports and assists with the efforts of the Drug Free Workplace programs. We also can provide community contacts for narcotic-related information and assistance
