Horton’s Corner Burns

At approximately 6:20 PM, December 30, 2012 the Platte County 911 Center received a 911 call from a female subject stating that Horton’s Corner in Chugwater had a fire inside the building. Dispatcher advised the subject to get everyone out and the Chugwater Volunteer Fire Department was paged to respond along with the Chugwater Ambulance Service. Upon their arrival they found the building fully engulfed and it appeared there was a passenger vehicle inside of the building. Chugwater Fire Department requested that Wheatland Volunteer Fire Department also respond.

One male subject from Casper was transported to the Platte County Memorial Hospital in Wheatland to be checked out.

The fire was brought under control at approximately 8:30 PM. No injuries were reported except for a dog that was inside the vehicle. The fire is being investigated by the State Fire Marshall and Division of Criminal Investigation.

PUBLIC NOTICE Regarding Weed & Pest District Board of Directors

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that the Platte County Board of County Commissioners is soliciting nomination petitions for Directors of the Platte County Weed and Pest Control District, Area 1, (Glendo-Meadowdale); Area 4, (South Wheatland); and Area 5, (Slater). The term of office is four (4) years. The Board of County Commissioners will make appointments from the qualified petitions for nominations at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 8, 2013.

Prior to appointment, a nominee for Director shall submit a petition, signed by at least ten (10) landowners, to the Clerk of the Board of County Commissioners, at least five (5) days before the date of the above described Commissioner meeting. Therefore, no petitions will be accepted after 4:00 p.m. Monday, December 31, 2012. Petitioners for nomination must be landowners and physically reside in the designated district area they are seeking nomination to. Petition forms can be acquired at the Office of the Platte County Clerk or the Platte County Weed and Pest District.

Notice is hereby given that the Platte County Board of Commissioners will consider changing the boundaries of election district and precincts 20-1, 12-1 and 1-6 so that those citizens residing east of I-25 currently in election district and precinct 20-1 will now be in election district and precinct 1-6 and those residing west of I-25 currently in election district and precinct 1-6 will now be in election district and precinct 12-1. A map of the proposed district and precinct changes is available in the County Clerk’s Office and with the links below.

Scholarships

Platte County Clerk, Chris Kanwischer, announced today that applications are now being accepted for County Commissioner Scholarships. Applications are available here, the Platte County Clerks office, or from the high school guidance counselor.

All applications must be in the Clerk's office no later than March 31, 2012, to be considered by the Board of Commissioners. There are three (3) new scholarships ($500 per semester), and one (1) renewal scholarship for prior recipients for attendance at accredited Wyoming colleges.

Funding is made available by the Wyoming Legislature and the scholarships are administered by the University of Wyoming, Department of Financial Aid and Scholarships. For additional information, contact your high school guidance counselors or the County Clerk.

NOTICE OF HEARING TO DISCUSS VACATION OF COUNTY ROAD #214, EMIGRANT HILL ROAD

Notice is hereby given that the Platte County Board of Commissioners received a petition from the State of Wyoming, Department of Military to vacate a road commencing at a true point of beginning at 42°28’31.681N, 104°50’37.965”W, commonly known as the State of Wyoming, National Guard northern property boundary and proceeding southeasterly approximately 11.19 miles along the road commonly known as Emigrant Hill Road to 42°20’58.36”N, 104°45’56.025”W to the point commonly known as Range Guard 2 of southern boundary of the National Guard property.

All objections thereto or claims for damages by reason thereof must be filed in writing with the County Clerk before 12:00 p.m. on the 19th day of March, 2012, or such road may be vacated without reference of such objections. Claims for damages not timely filed will be barred. A public hearing on the potential vacation will be held on March 20, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. in the Platte County Commissioners Room.

Notice of Final Payment to Contractor

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Platte County, Wyoming, has accepted the work as completed according to the plans and specifications set forth in the contract between Platte County and Alexander Construction for their work on the Happy Hollow Low Water Crossing project.

Acceptance having been made, final payment for work completed is now due to Contractor in accordance with the terms of the contract. Any disputed claims for material and labor performed under the contract should be made known to Tim Olind, P.E. County Engineer, Platte County, prior to the date of final payment.

On the 27th day of March, 2012, the forty-first day after the first publication of this Notice, Platte County, Wyoming will release final payment.
